Für Various Others 2022 hat JO VAN DE LOO die The Green Gallery aus Milwaukee, Wisconsin zu Gast. Die 2003 von John Riepenhoff gegründete Galerie wird für die Qualität ihres Programms geschätzt und ist ein wichtiger Veranstaltungsort, der für seine konsequente Unterstützung von Künstlern bekannt ist. In der Gemeinschaftsausstellung werden Arbeiten von Sheila Held gezeigt, die seit den 1980er Jahren Wandteppiche herstellt. Die Werke sind dicht mit Bildern versehen, die sie als Versuch beschreibt, den Schnittpunkt zwischen Magie, Wissenschaft, Religion, Kunst und Natur zu erreichen. Indem sie diese Verbindung von Gegensätzen erforscht, erreicht sie eine Komplementarität in der Hoffnung, die Kluft zwischen dem Ideal und dem Praktischen zu verringern.
In diesem Zusammenhang wird JO VAN DE LOO neue Gemälde von Sebastian Tröger präsentieren. Sein künstlerisches Werk zeichnet sich vor allem durch das Wechselspiel zwischen praktischem und konzeptuellem Arbeiten aus. In historisch-kritischer Reflexion entstehen so Werke, die in ironisch gebrochener Weise mit den Mitteln der Malerei und medial übersetzt Fragen an die Gegenwart stellen.

For this year’s edition, JO VAN DE LOO will host The Green Gallery from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Founded by John Riepenhoff in 2003, the gallery is treasured for the quality of its program and is an important venue known for its staunch support of artists. The collaborative exhibition showcases the work of Sheila Held who has been creating tapestry works since the 1980s. The tapestries are dense with imagery which she has described as an attempt to access the point where magic, science, religion, art and nature intersects. In exploring this conjunction of opposites she achieves a complementarity in the hope of narrowing the gap between the ideal and the practical.
In this context JO VAN DE LOO presents the latest paintings by Sebastian Tröger. His artistic work is characterized above all by the interplay between practical and conceptual work. In historical critical reflection, works are thus created that ask questions about the present in an ironically broken manner by means of painting and medial translation.
