Tim Bennett – Time Is a Waste

Mit dem Ausstellungstitel Time Is a Waste ruft Tim Bennett ein – zugegebenermaßen recht obskures – zeitliches Register auf. Tatsächlich geht es in seinen Arbeiten (auch) um Zeit und deren verschiedenartige Manifestationen. Zunächst einmal um Geschwindigkeit, im Sinn von Beiläufigkeit und Spontaneität. Wie schon bei früheren Bildern gibt es auch für die p.o.t.d. Reihe ein vorgelagertes Set an Parametern, die den Prozess der Formfindung pragmatisch verkürzen. Ausgehend von „scribbles“, genauer gesagt von Stiftproben in Schreibwarenläden und deren inhaltsfreier Zeichenhaftigkeit, hat Bennett Formen auf Papier gebracht, die rasch und ohne kompositorische Kontrolle durch das Auge entstehen. Diese Zeichnungen werden in zweiter Instanz auf einen Bildträger gebracht und schichtweise zu einer Gesamtkomposition arrangiert. Hier endet die Geschwindigkeit und überlässt einer anderen Form von Zeitlichkeit das Feld.

Tim Bennett – Time Is a Waste

With his current exhibition title Time Is a Waste, Tim Bennett invokes an – admittedly somewhat obscure – temporal register. And his works do indeed (also) deal with time and its various manifestations. Firstly, it’s about speed, in the sense of incidence and spontaneity. As with earlier pictures, there is also a prior set of parameters for the p.o.t.d. series that pragmatically shortens the forces of finding a form. Starting with “scribbles”, or more precisely the written squiggles resulting from testing pens in stationary shops and their symbolic nature devoid of meaning, Bennett brought forms to paper that take shape through the eye fast and without any compositional control. In a second step, these drawings are applied to a substrate and arranged in layers to make up an overall composition. This is where speed ends, relinquishing the field to another form of temporality.
