Die Galerie Jo van de Loo präsentiert die holländische Künstlerin Anouk Kruithof, deren Arbeiten sich zwischen Fotografie, Skulptur, Installation, Video, Performance und Künstlerbuch bewegen.
Die Ausstellung NEUTRAL umfasst Teile von Kruithofs neuester Serie #EVIDENCE. Diese bezieht sich auf Larry Sultans und Mike Mandels Publikation Evidence (1977), in der die beiden den Authentizitätsanspruch der Fotografie untergraben, indem sie die Fotografien ihrem ursprünglichen Kontext entziehen. Sultan und Mandel waren damit ihrer Zeit weit voraus; heute, fast 40 Jahre später, kann dieser Ansatz aufgrund des schier endlosen Einsatzes digitaler Fotografie auf Plattformen wie Facebook oder Instagram noch viel weiter gedacht werden.
Kruithof begann, in den Instagram Accounts von 27 privaten und 15 staatlichen Firmen sowie 11 Institutionen, alle mit Sitz in den USA, zu recherchieren.
Der TSA (Transportation Security Administration) Instagram Feed ist z.B. einer der Accounts, denen Kruithof folgte. Dort fand sie Aufnahmen sauber angeordneter konfiszierter Gegenstände, hauptsächlich Waffen zusammen mit den unkenntlich gemachten Personalausweisen der Besitzer.
Die unkenntlich gemachten Abbildungen der Ausweise der Waffenbesitzer druckt Kruithof auf unterschiedliches Plastikmaterial – Latex, PVC oder Vinyl – und hängt sie über Metallkonstruktionen - eine Art skulpturale Körper – Neutrals und Conceiled Matter(s).
Carry on... ist eine Screenshot Montage von Aufnahmen von Waffen, die alle an amerikanischen Sicherheitskontrollen an Flughäfen konfisziert wurden. Die Collage selbst wurde bereits von einem TSA Angestellten zusammengefügt und gepostet; Kruithof manipuliert den vorgeblichen Beweischarakter des Bildes, indem sie die Waffen ausschneidet, wodurch sie zugleich dem Bild seine manipulativ gewaltvolle Aussage entzieht.
In der Serie Screenshot-Montages hinterfragt sie den Wert und die Bedeutung der dort geposteten Bilder, die innerhalb des Kontextes einer Werbemaßnahme kaum noch als objektiv und verlässlich gelten können.

Jo van de Loo Gallery presents works from Anouk Kruithof, who’s work takes an interdisciplinary approach using the media of photography, sculpture, installation, video, performance and artist books. Kruithof’s most recent project #EVIDENCE, inspired by Larry Sultan and Mike Mandel’s book Evidence from 1977. Back then and way ahead of their time, Sultan and Mandel examined the authenticity of photography by manipulating its context. Nearly 40 years later, digital photography and its endless application on social media push this approach even further.
Kruithof started to research the Instagram accounts of 27 corporations, 15 government agencies and 11 institutions, all based in the US. For example, the Instagram feed of TSA (Transportation Security Agency) is one of the government agencies examined by the artist. There, she found sets of confiscated objects, mainly weapons, together with blurred identity cards of their holders. The images of these cards were later printed on material such as latex, PVC and vinyl and put together to form a series of sculptures titled Neutrals and Concealed Matter(s).
Carry on... is a screenshot montage showing firearms confiscated at airport security checkpoints all over America. The collage is the work of a TSA employee who posted it online; Kruithof manipulated the images in the collage by cutting out the firearms, thus removing all the evidence along with the violent aura of weaponry in America.
With the photo series, Screenshot-Montages she questions the value and meaning of images in promotional contexts that can hardly be understood as objective and reliable.
